Department of Justice

Stories from the front lines of the fight against sexual assault.

American Indians are 2.5 times more likely to experience sexual assault crimes compared to all other races, and one in three Indian women reports having been raped during her lifetime. These are sobering statistics. Sadly, the systems for treating patients respectfully and bringing perpetrators to justice are often just not there. Most U.S. health and crime facilities are not equipped to deal with the depth and complexity of these life-changing crimes.

The Department of Justice is trying to change this. In an ongoing effort to improve these systems, the DOJ created an online guide aimed at nurses, law enforcement officers, advocates - anyone and everyone working on the front lines of sexual assault.

VISION.

Given our experience working on impactful public health films, and theatrical documentaries such as The Hunting Ground and The Invisible War, we were entrusted to develop a series of short films highlighting the human and cultural stories that are often overlooked.

Over the course of 6 months, we produced 18 short pieces filmed in Arizona, Colorado, Philadelphia, and South Dakota. These films are now integrated in the DOJ's online guide and used regularly to begin important conversations on improving the response to sexual assault.
